My family were Scottish hoteliers and restaurateurs so I was aware of wine from an early age. But in Tuscany when I was twenty my interest in wine began in earnest and it is then that I set about obsessively discovering more. As a wine professional for thirty years, apart from the years of study, I have bought, sold, marketed, distributed and taught about wine. Today, I still consider myself to be an enthusiastic student on my wine discovery journey.

Considered to be the most prestigious qualification in the wine world, I started the Master of Wine (MW) study programme in 2009 and completed it in 2015. As a member of the Institute of Masters of Wine, I am one of only 390 MW's worldwide who support the Institute promoting excellence, interaction and learning across the global wine community. For me this involves student mentoring, presenting master classes, examining papers and admissions committee membership.

I am the Wine Director of O'Briens Wines, the Irish family owned drinks specialist with 2 UK and 34 Republic of Ireland shops, and an on-line and B2B division. I source, select and oversee the direct import of around 1000 wines from over 150 wineries and manage a team of 11. Recently I was delighted to be short listed for Image Magazine Business Women of The Year 2018.

I also present masterclasses, judge at international wine competitions, present on TV and keep my knowledge up to date by regularly attending tastings, courses and visiting wine regions.
